Happy Burns Night!

As we welcome the new year, Scotland and enthusiasts worldwide eagerly anticipate an evening of poetic revelry, bagpipes, and hymns to the rich tapestry of Scottish traditions. Celebrated annually on January 25th, Burns Night commemorates the life and works of Robert Burns, whose lyrical genius and profound insights into human nature have left an indelible mark on Scottish and international literature. With its emphasis on poetry, music, and culinary delights, Burns Night is a vibrant testament to Scotland's cultural legacy and history.

Born in 1759, Burns wrote extensively in the Scots language, capturing the essence of rural life, love, and Scottish ways of life. Some of his most famous poems include “Tam O’ Shanter”, “A Red, Red Rose”, "Auld Lang Syne," sung around the world to mark the transition to a new year, and “Address to a Haggis”, which ceremonially presents the typical Scottish dish and is traditionally recited as part of a Burns Night Supper. Burns Night celebrations are, in fact, marked by a traditional supper, where haggis, neeps (turnips), and tatties (potatoes) take centre stage. The evening also includes recitations of Burns' poetry, lively music, and ceremonial tributes to the national Scottish bard and his life.

Given Scotland's renowned whisky tradition, Burns Night celebrations also include a whisky tasting session during which guests savour a selection of Scotch whiskies, raising a glass in a toast to the memory of the poet and the quintessential spirit of Scotland itself.
