Sustainability
Our Mission
Since the company’s beginning in 1868 to today, we have committed to seeking change and promoting sustainability. Thus, we are working towards creating an environment in which the next generation can thrive.
Throughout the years, we have emphasised our core value of crafting quality clothing that does not impact our community and environment.
Yet, we know we need to do more to help tackle climate change. So, we actively play our part in reducing our environmental impact and help to transform our industry.
From championing slow fashion to recycling cloth and plastic, let us share our current sustainability policy and our future plans.
Helping Clean the Planet
Part of our commitment to sustainable practices is using materials which are fully biodegradable and FSC approved in all our packaging.
We are helping reduce plastic waste by using Quallofill Blue - an innovative fibre which uses 50% recycled plastic collected from shorelines around the world by local communities. Particularly, our dog bed inner cushions are made of this fibre that guarantees comfort & durability.
As we look to the future, we aim to eliminate where possible all plastic packaging and usage by 2025.
Manufacturing with Natural Fibres
We understand people want the best quality and fit, we make it happen by providing a made-to-order service.
Our kilts are handmade in our Edinburgh facility which includes its own Heritage Museum. From there, you can look through a window into the on-site factory where garments can be seen being handmade.
Our bespoke clothing encourages careful cutting and pattern planning to optimise fabric usage and minimise cloth waste. Our excess cloth is either donated to schools and charities or sold to crafters at a nominal cost.
We are proud to work with different natural fibres including Wool, Cashmere, and Cotton. Our goal is to ensure our materials are fully traceable. We do that by prioritising collaborations with certified sources who value high welfare standards.
Refurbishments & Alterations
In a time where fast-fashion is encouraged by low-costings, we strive to promote slow fashion and its beauty. Our clothing is a statement of timeless style and fine quality made to last for generations.
A unique feature of our business is our alteration & refurbishment service, perfect to enhance product longevity and durability.
From sprucing up your kilt with a dry clean and repress, to completely taking it apart and re-making it, our team can advise on the best treatment to breath new life into your garment.
The Future
As a heritage clothing brand, we want to promote Scottish textiles and Highland Dress by safeguarding our craftsmanship and commitment to quality.
In order to do so, we continually evolve and seek new technologies that help us keep our traditions and techniques alive.
As we move forward, we are committed to ensure 100% traceability throughout our supply chain. We are eager to educate ourselves on the use of new fabrics and materials to implement into our production. Most importantly, we will keep working with the weaving and textile industry to encourage further longevity for our fabrics.
