The Eric Liddell Tartan Collection

The Eric Liddell Tartan was commissioned by the Eric Liddell Community, an Edinburgh-based care charity, as part of The Eric Liddell 100, a programme to celebrate the life, sporting, and community service achievements of one of Scotland’s iconic figures: Eric Liddell. The tartan commemorates the centenary of the Scot’s historic success at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. The design and colours pay tribute to the athlete’s life, with yellow representing his gold medal, blue standing for Scotland, navy blue reflecting the colours of both Scottish Rugby and Edinburgh University, red symbolising China, green recalling his family holidays at Carcant and his love of field sports, and finally, grey signifying the loss of his life, at the age of just 43.
