Galbraith

Gaelic:  Clann a' Bhreatannaich
Badge:  Muzzled Bear Head
Latin Motto: Ab obice suavior (Strong when opposed)

Galbraiths  are connected with the Earls of Lennox and became one of the co Regents of Scotland in 1255. The clan land were round Lennox and Helenburgh.

It seems certain that the tartan was first known as 'Galbraith' in the collection of the Highland Society of London but William Wilson and Sons of Bannockburn recorded the pattern as Russell in their pattern book of 1847, although it was named Hunter in their earrlier book of 1819.  It is known as Galbraith, Russel and Hunter.
