Cape Breton Tartan
Cape Breton is an island administered by Nova Scotia on the East coast of Canada. It was first inhabited in the sixteenth century.
In 1907 Mrs Lillian Crewe Walsh of Glace Bay, Cape Breton, wrote a poem in praise of the island. In 1957 this poem was given to Mrs Grant, the tartan's designer. "Grey for our Cape Breton Steel, Green for our lofty mountains, our valleys and our fields; Gold for the Golden Sunsets, shining bright on the lakes of Bras d'Or, to show us God's hand has lingered, to bless Cape Breton's shores".
