Drummond of Perth

Gaelic: Drummann
Badge: A Goshawk
Motto: Gang warily

The Drummonds were supporters of the Royalist cause and followers of Robert the Bruce, playing a large part in the Battle of Bannockburn (1314). Marrying into the Royal line resulted in the Barony of Drummond being created (1488).

Later generations added the titles: Earl of Perth, Lord Madderty and Viscount Strathallan. The family continued their allegiances during the 1715 and 1745 rebellions resulting in their lands being forfeited until the Act of Restoration (1784). The chiefship is through the Strathallan branch of the family. The tartan closely resembles the pattern used by McIan for his Drummond figure, which Logan asserts is in fact a Grant tartan. Nevertheless it is established that the Drummonds wore this sett to meet George IV in Edinburgh in 1822.
