Clipper Yacht Race Update – The City of Edinburgh Crew leave Southampton

11 August 2011

Sunday 31st July and they were off in their full kilted glory - the "Edinburgh Inspiring Capital" yacht with Skipper Gordon Reid in control together with his excited crew of 17 supporters.

Douglas and Deirdre went to Southampton for the launch event. Deirdre wore a City of Edinburgh tartan silk shawl (to match the crew) and Douglas wore his Kinloch Anderson tartan kilt. They took part in the naming ceremony using the Kinloch Anderson whisky. Robin Knox Johnson, Chair of Clipper Ventures, and himself the first person to sail single handed, non stop round the world,  spoke to the Skipper and gave an address to the Haggis.

The proudly Scottish Edinburgh yacht was undoubtedly the centre of attention. We wish her and all who sail on her a safe and successful voyage. Follow us on facebook for updates on the race.
