The Green Financial Tartan at COP26

Back in the early Autumn of this year, we were delighted to be approached by The Chartered Banker Institute to commission their Green Finance Tartan.

It was their vision that the tartan would help bring together those who were eager to celebrate COP26 in Scotland and the banking and finance professionals who share their own vision of a finance sector that works to conserve the Earth's natural resources and create shared prosperity.

Every tartan tells a story

As with every tartan we design, there is a story to be told through the colours and patterns chosen to appear throughout The Green Finance Tartan.

The designed cloth tells the story of sustainable finance in Scotland, the green and gold threads representing nature and finance woven together, and the blue and white notes symbolising the need to protect our oceans and our atmosphere.

The sett of the tartan also contains elements of The Chartered Banker Institute’s own corporate tartan, further solidifying the relationship between the Institute and their commitment to responsible banking that recognises their stewardship of the environment.

What's next for tartan production?

At Kinloch Anderson we are excitedly following the use of natural dyes in tartan manufacturing. Whilst the majority of the materials we use are naturally sourced and are made-to-order to cut down on excess waste, we know there will always be areas where we can continue to improve our practices.

We are greatly anticipating the use of these natural dyes on heavier cloth weights in due course, but until they are ready we continue to applaud the innovators within our industry who are undertaking such experimentation.
