St Andrews Old Course Hotel

The St Andrews Old Course Tartan was designed in 1994, proposed by Jonathon Thornton, Managing Director of St Andrews Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa to promote the hotel and spa and to celebrate the opening of the new Craigtoun Golf Course, St Andrews. The design is based on the Melville tartan, as the course was constructed on the Craigtoun House and Estate which once belonged to the Melville family. The two prominent lines in sand in the new tartan are a similar feature to the two prominent lines in white the Melville tartan. The basis of the design otherwise is similar to the sett of the Earl of St. Andrews. The blue represents the waters of St Andrews bay overlooked by the new course, the green the fairways of the old course and vicuna/sand the bunkers of both courses.
