About

This jewellery is made in beautiful Sterling Silver. This brooch makes the perfect gift and provides a beautiful finishing touch to the lapel of your jacket, scarf or handbag. This style of Brooch was given to a woman on her betrothal by her husband. It was a traditional gift and also considered a lucky charm. They were bought from Locking Booths which were tiny shops that could be locked securely at night. The tiny shops were a feature on Edinburgh's Royal Mile. Subsequently the brooches were pinned on the shawl of the first baby to protect it from evil spirits and in this way have passed down from generation to generation in Scottish families to become valuable heirlooms. They are probably the most romantic and lovely type of brooch in Scotland's history and make a particularly perfect and unusual present for an Engagement, Wedding or Birthday. Supplied in a Kinloch Anderson presentation box.
