About
The Life of the Sundial
This is a slow air written in 6/8 compound time with two beats to the bar. These tunes have often been drawn from the “sean-nos” of solo singing tradition.
The Life of the Sundial slow air has been exclusively written for Kinloch Anderson by Pipe Major Derek Potter RVM, The Sovereign’s Piper 2008-2012
This slow air is named after the Kinloch Anderson Sundial tartan and recalls the 150th Anniversary Celebration which took place in 2018 in The Sundial Garden of Inverleith Park in Edinburgh. The composer of all these tunes, Pipe Major Derek Potter, RVM was the host on this occasion, chosen to welcome The Lord Provost of The City of Edinburgh on his arrival. The tartan itself uses colours of historic significance to the sundial and to the company, including six fine burgundy lines which represent the six generations of Kinloch Anderson’s ownership and management.
