The Castle Grey Tartan has been inspired by the rich grey stones and rocks used to build many castles and strongholds in Scotland. Some of these castles are ancient and ruined but each is full of history and has a story to tell.

Kinloch Anderson has been based in Edinburgh, the Capital of Scotland since 1868 where Edinburgh Castle is its most famous historic monument. The Castle was built in the 12th Century on Dolerite rock from an extinct volcano. This tartan, therefore, uses three shades of grey representing the rocks of the numerous castles and strongholds in Scotland, with a red overcheck to remind us of the countless sieges that have taken place and also incorporating the red colour used in the City of Edinburgh’s Coat of Arms.
