Six Nations 2021: The Milroy Cup

We’re incredibly excited that Scotland’s rearranged and long-awaited match against France is due to be played this Friday, resuming round three of the 2021 Six Nations championship.

These matches between Scotland and France are particularly endeared by the Kinloch Anderson Family because the winner is presented with the Auld Alliance Trophy, also known as The Milroy Cup – an award whose roots lie within the family from three generations ago.

This Friday evening will mark the fourth presentation of The Milroy Cup since its institution in 2018.

Who was Eric Milroy?

Eric Milroy was the great, great uncle of our CEO, John Kinloch Anderson. He is particularly admired by John for his great achievements in the game of rugby. Like Eric Milroy, John was a keen rugby player and remains an avid rugby enthusiast.

Milroy's great rugby achievements saw him playing for Scotland in almost every international match from 1911-1914 and was the captain of the last international game of rugby before the outbreak of World War 1, against France.

A Tradition Born.

In 2017, a veterans' rugby tournament inspired the idea of having an Auld Alliance Trophy awarded to the winners of the Scotland v France International match each year.

It represents the ultimate sacrifice made by rugby players of both nations, and embodies the Auld Alliance that was renewed in the Great War.

It was first presented to the winners of the Six Nations match between Scotland and France on February 11, 2018 and was carried onto the pitch at Murrayfield, Edinburgh by Lachlan Ross and Romain Cabanis, 11-year-old descendants of Milroy and Burgun.

The cup will be presented to the winner of the Six Nations Scotland vs France match this Friday, 26th March 2021.

Unsung Heroes.

In addition to those who have received public recognition for their achievements, there are many unsung heroes in the wider Kinloch Anderson Family.

There are those with noteworthy achievements in the arts, education, sport, commerce, farming, politics, religion, and community life.

We are deeply grateful to them all for their contribution to the world we now have the privilege to live in.
