• The Clan and Family Names Map of Scotland has been reprinted by Harper Collins ahead of The Gathering 2009. This is a must-have  guide for those interested in the history of Scotland, its clans and heraldry, and for everyone visiting the land of their ancestors.
• The map shows the coats of arms and the ancient territories of Scottish clans and considerable families at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The areas representing the ancient Principalities of Scotland are also indicated. The main roads and airports are clearly marked and there is also an index showing a selection of clan- and heraldry-associated tourist attractions.
• The map is based on "Scotland of Old", the highly popular clan names map originally conceived and compiled by Sir Iain Moncrieffe of that Ilk and Don Pottinger, both of whom were Officers of the Lyon Court.
• As well as being Clan Chief, Sir Iain was an expert herald and genealogist, an advocate, scholar and courtier. He held the Office of Albany Herald and was married to Lady Diana Hay, Chief of the Hays, Countess of Erroll in her own right and Lord High Constable of Scotland.
• Don Pottinger was Islay Herald and latterly held the post of Lyon Clerk and Keeper of the Records. He was one of the finest and most innovative heraldic artists of his generation and his illustrations for this map are based on the clear and restrained style of the fourteenth century, a time when heraldry was an everyday part of life.
