Kinloch Anderson

Highland Dress Outfits for Ladies
There are many opportunities for ladies to wear Scottish clothing.

Kilted Skirts
This is a traditional skirt for ladies, modelled on the look of a man’s kilt, but easier to wear and just as elegant. The ladies’ kilted skirt is versatile and can be worn at any length from mini to full length. This skirt is traditionally made in wool worsted tartan fabric. The Kinloch Anderson ladies’ kilted skirt has two straps and buckles and the fringe is worn on the right hand side of the garment in accordance with the man’s traditional kilt.

In addition to kilted skirts Kinloch Anderson have a wide range of other ladies’ skirt styles in tartan or tweed fabrics which can be individually made to order. Skirt styles include:

Trousers
These are made to order in pure wool worsted tartan or tweed. The trouser style has a pleated front, belt loops, front zip and two side pockets.

Waistcoats
These are made to order in tartan or plain colours with a cloth back or a satin back.

Jackets
The ladies’ Coatee jacket is based on the style of the men’s Coatee jacket and it has a velvet back collar.

Blouses
The traditional Highland Dress blouse for ladies is a jabot blouse. A blouse with lace mandarin collar and placket is an alternative to the jabot blouse.

Serapes
Serapes are long blanket like shawls, which are fringed at the ends and worn around the shoulders. The Serape is another elegant way for ladies to enjoy wearing tartan but is also available in many plain colours. Serapes can be made in Lambswool, Lamora or Cashmere.

Sashes
The manner in which ladies wear an Evening Sash had significance even centuries ago and there are traditions associated with this Highland Dress item.

There are 4 classic traditional ways for ladies to wear the sash, the most common of which is for the sash to be worn over the right shoulder, across the breast and secured by a pin or brooch on the right shoulder.

Wives of Clan Chiefs and the wives of the Colonels of Scottish Regiments wear a fuller size sash over the left shoulder, secured with a brooch on that shoulder.

Ladies who have married out of their family Clan but who still wish to use their original Clan tartan may wear a longer sash over the right shoulder secured with a pin and fastened in a large bow on the left hip.

Finally, Country Dancers or when the lady desires to keep the front of her dress clear of the sash (for example when wearing a ribbon of chivalric order) the sash is attached with a button at the back of the waist. Or it is held by a small belt and is secured at the right shoulder by a pin or small brooch so that it falls backwards from the right shoulder and swings at the back of the right arm.
